JAKARTA, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah met on Thursday, discussing ways to expand bilateral ties and to expand trade.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah who leads a high profile delegation of his country was received with a state visit official ceremony in Bogor presidential palace, the official residence of President Widodo.

The two held a meeting in the palace to discuss various issues related to bilateral ties.

Besides his visit to Bogor presidential palace, accompanied by President Widodo, the Brunei leader also made a visit to Indonesian military headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, later in the day.

In his briefing to reporters, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir said that the current visit of Brunei sultan to Indonesia was a reciprocal visit from the one conducted by President Widodo to Brunei in 2015.

In the meeting, the two leaders agreed to deepen bilateral ties into wider sectors, including in economy, investment and people-to-people contact, Nasir said.
