SEOUL, June 11 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday held a phone conversation ahead of the summit between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States.

Moon's spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom told a press briefing that Moon and Trump talked over the phone for about 40 minutes from 4:30 p.m. local time (0730 GMT).

Moon told Trump that the South Korean leader and people would wholeheartedly pray for a successful DPRK-U.S. summit.

Trump explained to Moon about what had been negotiated between Pyongyang and Washington until recently.

The two leaders made a detailed discussion on how to make the DPRK-U.S. summit a success.

The summit is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Singapore time (0100 GMT) Tuesday at the Capella hotel on the resort island of Sentosa.

If Trump and Kim sit down face-to-face and frankly talk to find a common ground between the two sides, the two leaders could gain a big achievement, Moon and Trump agreed.

After the DPRK-U.S. summit, Trump will send U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to South Korea and China to explain the result of the summit.

Trump said he would consult with Moon on South Korea-U.S. cooperation to concretely implement the outcome of the DPRK-U.S. summit.
