TEHRAN, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Friday strongly condemned recent deadly airstrikes by Israel on targets in Lebanon.
He made the remarks in a statement over a series of Israeli airstrikes on what Israel calls Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon on Thursday, which killed one person and injured seven others.
Baghaei described the attacks as "flagrant violations of Lebanon's territorial integrity and national sovereignty," stressing that the number of Israel's violations of a 2024 ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah had neared 5,000.
He said the Israeli violations and attacks harmed citizens, destroyed infrastructure, and disrupted the reconstruction and economic development processes in Lebanon.
He also noted that the present circumstances resulted from the "inaction and constant appeasement" by the ceasefire's guarantors, namely the United States and France, in the face of and with Israel.
In another statement released by the foreign ministry on Friday, Baghaei condemned the U.S. military activities in proximity to Venezuela's coast as "illegal and provocative".
He said the U.S. military actions, including its frequent attacks on fishing boats, and explicit threats of resorting to force and military intervention against Venezuela, constituted a "flagrant violation" of the fundamental principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter. ■
