KAMPALA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's Olympic gold medalist Peruth Chemutai will compete at the upcoming Eugene Diamond League on July 5.
Chemutai, a 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist, will compete in her usual 3,000m steeplechase event.
"I have been preparing well enough, and I look forward to performing well in the U.S.," Chemutai, who is currently ranked third in the 3,000m steeplechase by World Athletics, told Xinhua.
Despite the absence of world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya, Chemutai will face tough competition from the likes of reigning world champion Winfred Yavi, Faith Cherotich and Courtney Wayment.
Chemutai, who finished second behind Kenya's Cherotich at last month's Paris Diamond League, is using the Diamond League to prepare for the World Championships in Tokyo. Chemutai will be joined by fellow Ugandan Keneth Kiprop at the Eugene event.
Kiprop, who finished fifth in the 5,000m at the Shanghai Diamond League in May, will this time compete in the 10,000m. ■
