JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg hosted a reception on Monday evening to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), which falls on Oct. 1.

In his welcoming speech, Chinese Consul General in Johannesburg Pan Qingjiang highlighted the special bond of "comrades plus brothers" between China and South Africa, noting that the all-round strategic cooperative partnership in a new era has consistently yielded tangible outcomes.

Pan noted that in an increasingly turbulent world marked by growing hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism, collective efforts are essential. He reaffirmed China's unwavering commitment to building a community with a shared future for humanity, fulfilling its responsibilities as a major global power, and remaining a steadfast force for global development, peace, stability, and progress.

Pan emphasized that sub-national and people-to-people exchanges are vital to bilateral relations. He said the consulate-general remains committed to strengthening communication in Gauteng and Free State provinces, hoping both sides will build on the momentum of China-South Africa relations to enhance sub-national friendship and cooperation.

Ntombizanele Sifuba, Free State MEC (member of the executive council) for sports, arts, culture and recreation, praised China's remarkable development over the past 76 years, highlighting its achievement in eradicating poverty and the valuable lessons South Africa can learn from China's journey.

Sifuba expressed commitment to strengthening ties with China. "We are excited about the opportunities ahead and committed to turning our agreements into tangible results."

She highlighted the province's focus on expanding collaborations, especially in agriculture and trade, to promote mutual growth and prosperity.

Matome Chiloane, Gauteng MEC for education, sports, arts, culture and recreation, said: "From Gauteng's viewpoint as South Africa's economic hub, we have seen China rise to become the world's second-largest economy and a leader in manufacturing and trade."

He highlighted the strong economic ties between Gauteng and China, especially in mining, manufacturing, and telecommunications, pledging deeper collaboration through the sister province relationship with Hunan Province in central China.

The reception was attended by around 300 guests, including government officials, representatives from business, academia, media, non-governmental organizations and consular corps, as well as members of the overseas Chinese community.
