JAKARTA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- No casualties or major damage have been reported after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's Papua province on Thursday.
According to the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake's epicenter was located about 32 km southeast of the Sarmi district at a depth of 18 km.
No tsunami warning was issued following the tremor.
Indonesia, a vast archipelagic nation, sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an area with frequent seismic and volcanic activity. ■
