NEW DELHI, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- A major fire broke out at a highrise apartment building in India's financial capital Mumbai Friday, police and fire officials said.

The blaze started at Zia Apartment on Belasis Road in central Mumbai this afternoon.

"Fortunately, there have been no reports of any casualty in the incident as all occupants of the building have been evacuated by firefighters braving the raging blaze in the apartment building," a senior police official said.

Fire officials said that some 10 fire tenders have been pressed into service.

"Firefighters are trying to contain the fire. No injuries are reported till now. We are doing our best to ensure that the fire does not spread to upper floors," Mumbai's chief fire officer P.S. Rahangdale told the media.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.

The fire incident came a day after four people were killed and nine others injured in a fire at another building in Mumbai, and a week after 14 people, mostly young women, were killed in the fire at a trendy rooftop pub in Mumbai's Kamala Mills complex.

Fires are common in eateries and buildings in India, mainly because of lack of regards for safety norms and fire-fighting equipment like hosepipes and alarm systems.
