DOHA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Qatar and Chad have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to resume diplomatic relations several months after the two countries severed ties, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported Wednesday.

The spokesperson for Qatar's Foreign Ministry Lulwah al-Khater said both countries would return their ambassadors with immediate effect.

"This is a victory for the diplomacy of both countries, one that is based on the principles of dialogue and common interests that bring peace and prosperity for both nations," the spokesperson said.

Last August, Chad joined the Saudi-led blockade on Qatar and closed Qatar's embassy in N'Djamena. Later, in retaliation for Chad's decision, Qatar also closed Chad's embassy in Doha and gave personnel 72 hours to leave the country.

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt severed diplomatic ties as well as all air, sea and land links to Qatar, accusing the gas-rich Gulf state of supporting terrorism and aligning with Iran against Arab interests, which Doha has repeatedly denied.
