JERUSALEM, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu renewed on Wednesday his threat to target on Iranian targets in Syria.

The remark, made during the renaming ceremony for the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center, came two days after Iran and Syria signed a military cooperation deal.

"We are working to prevent Iran from establishing a military presence in Syria," Netanyahu said, according to a statement released by his office.

"In the military sphere, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) will continue to take strong and determined action against Iran's attempts to station forces and advanced weapons systems in Syria," he said.

"No agreement between Syria and Iran will deter us; neither will any threat deter us," he warned, adding that "whoever threatens us with destruction, puts himself in similar danger."

Netanyahu said that Israel will continue its diplomatic efforts to cancel the 2015 nuclear deal to curb Iran's nuclear program. "We will not relent in pursuit" of the cancelation of the "bad" agreement, he said.

Israel has lobbied European countries and the U.S. to cancel the deal. In May, U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the deal and later reimpose economic sanctions on the Islamic republic.
