KHOST, Afghanistan, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- A motorbike bomb blast struck a parliamentary campaigner's motorcades in the eastern Khost province on Saturday, injuring at least one person, local police said.

"The motorcades of parliamentary candidate Abdul Wali Ekhlas was passing the provincial capital Khost city at around 9:00 a.m. local time for electoral compaign when an explosive-laden motorbike exploded, injuring one person," local police Abdul Jalil told Xinhua.

However, some witnesses believed that the number of casualties is higher than reported.

The electoral campaign for Afghan parliamentary and district councils elections on Oct. 20 began Friday across the country.

Around 2,691 candidates from 33 out of 34 provinces, except Ghazni, stood for Wolesi Jirga or lower house of the Afghan parliament's 249 seats.

Elections in eastern Ghazni province are reportedly delayed by Afghan Election Commission (IEC) for some reasons, including lack of female candidates for district councils' seats.
