CANBERRA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Australia's governing Liberal-National Party coalition (LNP) has fallen further behind the opposition Australian Labor Party (ALP), according to the latest opinion poll.

The latest Newspoll, which was published on Sunday night, revealed that the LNP trailed the ALP 45-55 on a two-party preferred basis compared to 46-54 in late October.

According to the poll, the LNP and Prime Minister Scott Morrison are facing a landslide defeat at the upcoming general election, which is due to take place by May 2019.

If the 55-45 result is upheld at the 2019 election the ALP would win as many as 89 of the 150 seats in the House of Representatives, the lower house of Australia's parliament, compared to only 56 for the LNP while minor parties and independents would claim five seats.

Newspoll found that the ALP's primary vote rose to 40 percent, up from 39, while the LNP's fell by one percent to 35.
