NEW DELHI, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- A fire broke out inside a metro train in Koltaka of eastern Indian state of West Bengal Thursday evening, officials said.

No casualty was reported in the incident as all the passengers onboard were evacuated safely.

Smoke filled the coach soon after the fire broke out. Over a dozen passengers, who inhaled smoke and complained of dizziness and nausea, were hospitalized.

The fire was reported from the first coach of a metro train between Rabindra Sadan and Maidan stations in the heart of Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal.

Officials said the fire has been put out.

"An incident of fire between Rabindra Sadan and Maidan took place about 20 minutes ago. The fire was put off by our staff through water from fire hydrants. West Bengal fire service and Kolkata Police disaster management group are attending. All passengers have been safely evacuated," said a statement issued by Kolkata metro, urging people not to panic.

Reports said many senior citizens were among those who were taken ill due to inhaling of smoke.
