FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces in crackdown against Taliban fighters have killed seven militants and injured eight others in Tishkan district of the northern Badakhshan province, provincial police spokesman Sanahullah Rohani said Friday.

The fresh crackdwn, according to the official, launched Thursday in parts of the restive Tishkan district and so far had led to the physical elimination of seven Taliban fighters and injuring eight others.

Two security personnel have also been injured in the ongoing operations, the official admitted.

The cleanup operations which begun couple of days ago would last until the restive district is cleansed of the insurgents, Rohani further said.

Taliban militants have not commented.
