BEIRUT, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- North Lebanon Governor Ramzi Nohra warned Wednesday of a "social disaster" threatening the community's structure in North Lebanon due to the high number of Syrian refugees in the area, local media reported.

"We call upon the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to increase its support for Syrian refugees in addition to facilitating their return to safe areas in Syria," Nohra was quoted as saying by the National News Agency.

Nohra's remarks came during his meeting with a delegation from the UNICEF in Tripoli's Serail to discuss the challenges faced by Lebanese citizens due to the presence of a great number of Syrian refugees in the city.

Nohra said that Syrian children are facing big problems despite the great support offered to them in Lebanon, which necessitates their return to their homeland.

Nohra also noted that the Lebanese government has incurred heavy losses especially in health, education and economic sectors which affected negatively Lebanese families and namely the youths who are incapable of finding job opportunities.

"The Lebanese youths are facing heavy competition from Syrian refugees in the job market," he said.
