MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- A total of eight militants have been killed and 11 others sustained injuries as clash erupted in Dawlat Abad district of the northern Faryab province, army spokesman Mohammad Hanif Rezai said on Thursday.

The clash broke out after the government forces launched operations against Taliban militants in some villages of the restive district on Wednesday and so far in addition to killing eight armed fighters and injuring 11 others, a good quantity of arms and ammunition have also been destroyed, the official said.

There were no casualties on security personnel, the official added.

Taliban militants operating in parts of the troubled Faryab province have yet to make comment.
