TOKYO, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday held phone conversations with U.S. President Donald Trump ahead of the scheduled summit between the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Abe agreed to cooperate with the U.S. side on the Korean Peninsula issue including the denuclearization of the peninsular and the abductions of Japanese citizens.

"We firmly and closely coordinated our policies in the run-up to the second U.S.-North Korea summit to resolve nuclear, missile and abduction issues," Abe said after the phone talks with Trump.

Abe said that Trump agreed to help with the issue of abduction of Japanese citizens.

Abe said during a Diet committee session earlier in the day that his administration "will decisively take action not to miss any opportunity."

The U.S.-DPRK summit is scheduled to take place in Hanoi, Vietnam on Feb. 27-28.
