JAKARTA, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's water polo team is to play Japan on Thursday as part of its preparations for the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEA) in the Philippines later this year, the country's swimming association said here on Tuesday.

The Indonesian squad will look to learn from their Japanese counterparts, coach Milos Sakovic said in a statement, adding that the Japanese team typically employs various different strategies during matches.

After Thursday's match, both teams will conduct a joint practice, said Harlin Raharjo, deputy chairman of the Indonesian swimming association.

The official added that the activities would help increase the capability and skill level of the Indonesian team.

Japan's coach Hideki Takagi noted that the posture of Indonesian and Japanese athletes is relatively similar, meaning both teams must rely heavily on speed, skill and tactics.

The 30th SEA Games is scheduled to be held in the Philippines from November 30 to December 11.
