WELLINGTON, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Visitor arrivals from China declined more than 20 percent year-on-year, Statistics New Zealand (Stats NZ) announced on Wednesday.

The April data from Stats NZ showed that Chinese visitors' number went down 9,900, or 21 percent, from the same month last year, reaching 36,600 in April 2019, despite the Easter holiday boosting arrivals from other countries.

Although some incentive scheme helped increase Chinese visitor numbers, it is still lower than 2017, said Stats NZ population indicators manager Tehseen Islam.

Visitor arrivals from China decreased 20,400 for the year ended in April 2019. However, visitors from China still remain at high levels and China is still the second largest visitor market for New Zealand after Australia.
